Is Constructivism a Religion?

Tough question…..and gets tougher the more I think about it!  While there may be some similarties to some religions, especially those that extole the virture of self, I find that construcivism is not a religion.  Constructivism theory states that individuals create their world based on interaction with others and through self-discovery.  Where religion is generally defined by certain practices, historical documents or a set of long-held beliefs, constructivism focuses on the stuggle within oneself to make sense of the world.  Thus it would seem that constructs are the means an individual uses to define the world, whereas religion tends to define the world, or at least its practices, for the participant.

Constructivism is the means to make sense of the world around you, but don’t you think religion has its origins in constructivism? Religions uses constructs to define the world from that one particular perspective. Those long-held beliefs had to come from someone, an origin. The means to create a religion has to come from one person’s means of understanding the world through constructs. Just a thought.

Perhaps so…but then again, there are multitudes of people who use constructs to make sense of their world, yet are not practicing a religion. Perhaps religion has origin in constructivism, yet constructivism is not in itself a religion.
